First of Finland,
There's so many reasons for me not to like Padova and not want to live there. I know that. As well as I know that even if I want to stay in Finland for the old days, I also know that I don't want those days to start just yet.
In the morning I went out for few last things to do anymore. I saw Piero. He doesn't know any english, so it's only italian with him. It's not always so easy, but I'm surprised of my confidence in speaking now. I can actually make jokes and have a conversation. Usually I miss some words and depending on the person the conversation is VAIHTELEVASTI successful. However, I realize that after starting to hang-out more with finnish people my italian has improved. I don't talk so much english and I don't have to focus so much on changing from language to language. Or maybe that has nothing to do with hanging out with finnish people. Maybe it's a change in me. I hope so.
I even enjoy talking italian. It doesn't feel like work anymore.
The last hours at home, I had nothing to do anymore, but I didn't dare to leave the house before actually leaving for the bus station. I did nothing. I couldn't sit in front of the computer but I didn't have anything else to do either... so I just wandered around thinking if I should eat something or pack some more or leave already or... I leave home very early to first catch the tram and then the bus at the station. At the bus station a nun asks me if a bus is a bus to Venezia. She starts to ask where I'm going with such big luggage. She talks slow if I don't understand. When the bus comes I touch her hand to make her aware of it. When she leaves the bus, she touches mine and waves. "Buon viaggio cara!"
On the way to the airport I see a lot of things. There is bright red flowers on the side of the road. A family of ducks going to a river. A HAIKARA. Signs.. I see all signs. Were they all there before, but I was too tired, too sad, too.. something to realize it.
I get to the airport I'm one hour early for the check-in. It goes fast. I read some more of The Alchemist and listen to my mp3-player. I watch at the screen telling me which check-in. There's a storm inside me. I can figure out all the possible reasons why not leave Italy and not go to Finland. And vice versa. I cannot figure out what I want. I think of Mario who just came from Singapore where he found not just love but also a place he wants to go with one way ticket. He fell in love with Singapore like he did with Finland.
Standing in line with all finnish speaking people, I realize how much I dislike it. I even catch myself thinking that I will never take Finnair again because there is nothing but around me. I dislike their need to get everything done right at the very second (no ability to wait). I dislike their way of looking. I think there's only one young girl and a really old guy that look worth getting to know to. Just for a while I like about the world except for my home country.
I have so many reasons to dislike Italy. None of them have anything to do with the country itself. All of them are about my experience here. Why go, why stay. When to go and when to stay? I have no idea.
I just know that I'm (fucking) excited to see my family, grandparents and friends again.. but the excitment does not include the country itself.
There is something that I absolutely adore in leaving. Unknown.

After I walked through the gates of the airport. Coming from the no-mans-land I felt so out of place. I was happy to be there, but it was strange to understand what the women behind the desk selling sandwichs'said to each other.
Later on I did so much that I didn't usually do when I was in Finland. I talked to an unknown woman on the busstop and she seemed to be happy to be talked to. I walked around in the shops... and finally in the bookstore where I could understand most of the books. In the beginning I even found italians from the food hall of Turku. There is a small italian restaurant where two men were talking italian. I stop, look back...
"you talk italian"
"yes we do"
"how nice"
"sit here and have lunch with us"
"no, i can't now"
The first days I was completely out of place. I wanted back to Italy so bad and I seeked signs to tell me that I belong there. I should be there, but everytime I only found a certain peace of mind that I have when walking these streets. It's a feeling I have for myself when I am here. I like myself here and I'm me in here. I don't think the people who know me in Italy, know the me that people here know and who I know.. or the me I want to be for everyone and in everywhere.

Hyvää ystävänpäivää,
"In the third century after Christ, Valentine was the bishop of Terni (Italy). He wedded pairs, which were not allowed to marry in Rome at that time. The reasons were that parents did not agree with the connection or because the bridegroom was a soldier, or a slave so the marriage was forbidden. Valentine gave to the married pairs flowers from his garden. That's why flowers play a very important role on Valentine's Day. This did not please the emperor. On February 14, 269 AD, Valentin was beheaded because of his Christian faith. --- The martyr Valentine became the patron saint of the lovers."Wikipedia
In Italy people seem to be all about couples while Saint Valentines day. Maybe because of the historical reason. It's everywhere... the thought. Except in Finland, for me. In finnish this day is called friends day instead of Saint Valentine's. I adore that idea much more than the day for lovers.
For me this day is for friends and for loved ones. It's still love.. and after all, there's not much that parts friendlove from romantic love. For the sake of that, I share with you a clip from the postsecret-project:

Scandinavian dinner,
Silje (Norway), I (Finland) and Charlotte (Sweden) arranged a Scandinavian dinner for people in Nievo and few others. We served:
Antipasti: Dark bread with philadelphia, spring onions, cold smoked salmon and dill.
Main course: Potatoes with chive (ruohosipuli), cod (turska) with tomatoes, leek (purjo), spring onions, pepper, cream, milk, emmental-cheese.
Dessert: Cinnamon rolls.
Drinks: German beer, white wine and water.
We started preparing at 12am in the morning and continued until the beginning of the dinner at 9pm. But it was so worth it! The people loved our food and I'm still hyper of it being so good and so homey. YAM!
The main makers + Eeva who came to help!

What do Italians generally want to know about Finland - and the answers.
How much daylight do you get in Finland?
Right now (November 11th) it's about 8 hours in Helsinki (rise 8:30, set 16:30) and about 7 hours in Sodankylä (up north in Lapland, rise 8:00, set 15:30). But just in the end of December it will barely be 6 hours in Helsinki (rise 9:30, set 15:30) and - 45 minutes in Sodankylä (rise 11:45, set 12:30)..
So most of the winter the sunrises when you're going to school or work (or even before) and sets when you're getting out of there (or even earlier). The days are sometimes grey and cloudy so even when the sun is up, you might not see it. Then again, the most beautiful winter days are really beautiful. So that time is only for how long the sun is above the horizon.
And in the summer it's all light?
In the middle of June, in Helsinki there's almost 19 hours of light and during the night it doesn't get dark even though the sun is down. In Sodankylä it's 24 hours of light from the mid-June to mid-July. HOW LOVELY IS THAT! Che bello!
Is it cold now in Finland?
According to people and forecast around zero, sometimes a little below, sometimes a bit over. It's been snowing but the snow doesn't stay on the ground. Anyone anything to add?
Is Finland actually in Scandinavia?
Wikipedia answers you: "Scandinavia is a historical and geographical region centred on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe which includes the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The other Nordic countries, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands, are also often included because of their close historic and cultural relations to Norway, Sweden, and Denmark." There's also a point that the countries alltogether are nowadays just Nordic countries, because of arguments about that.
Is finnish language alike to swedish, norwegian, danish, hungarian, italian, english...?
Finnish is not really like any other language. It belongs to the same language group with hungarian, but we cannot understand each other at all. We can understand only a little and only some words here and there of Estonian.
Is english your official language?
NO!
So why do you speak so good english then?
I don't know. We learn it in school at least 8 years. I've learned it for 13 years now. And our tv is not dubbed.
Do you swim in the sea, also in the winter?
Yes we make a whole to the ice and swim in it after sauna and before sauna. (More: Wikipedia/Ice swimming)

What's up here...
Today I've read a lot of online newspapers on the Jokela massacre and the murder of a britist girl who was in exchange in Perugia, Italy. Sad.. so sad.

I officially am IN the Uni!
25.9.2007
(in english - coming soon)
JIPII! Ihmiset tuntuvat arvostavat todella paljon skandinaaveja.)
Unohdin kààntàà tàmàn kuvan, enkà tààllà yliopiston tietokonehuoneessa pysty.
I forgot to turn this and I cannot do it here in the uni's computerroom.

Foccaccio vegetariana ja taka-alalla vettà, johon on sekoitettu minttusiirappia. Maistuu hammastahnalta, en voi ymmàrtàà miksi siità tykàtààn tààllà.
Foccaccio vegetariana and on the background water with mint syrup. It tastes like toothpaste, I cannot understand why people like it here.
Valmistumispäivänä he pukeutuvat hassuihin ja usein paljastaviin vaatteisiin. He seisovat ympäri kaupunkia löytyvillä penkeillä, joissa he joutuvat lukemaan hassut tekstit elämästään. Jos he lukevat väärin, he saavat rangaistukseksi esim. jauhoja päälle ja/tai joutuvat juomaan alkoholia. Koko suuri perhe ja ystäväpiiri on kerääntynyt penkin eteen kuuntelemaan. Ihan joka päivä olen nähnyt ainakin yhden valmistuneen ja monta kertaa ympäri kaupunkia on kuulunut laulua "dottore, dottooore, dottoooore" (lääkäri).

Tosiaan pyöräily on opiskelijoiden lisäksi todella suuri osa kaupungin kulttuuria. No problemo.
Maanantaina mulla alkaa valokuvauskurssi. Kaikki luennot on iltaisin.
Valokuvaus (fotografia) - maanantaina ja tiistaina 16.30-18.15, keskiviikkona 17.30-19.15
Cinematografia - keskiviikkona 16.30-19.15, torstaina 17.30-19.15
"You are crazy! It's my job, so of course!"
Toimistolla tuli eräs tyttö juttelemaan: "Are you Milla?"

PS. Näin Marimekon Unikko-kangasta ison palan yhden liikkeen ikkunassa ihan keskustassa.
PSS. Netti tulee toimintaan via Montàlla 10 päivän sisällä!
PSSS.

Vau!The posters that the gratuates need to read aloud at attached to the walls for others to see.

"You are crazy! It's my job, so of course!"
Toimistolla tuli eräs tyttö juttelemaan: "Are you Milla?"
PS. Näin Marimekon Unikko-kangasta ison palan yhden liikkeen ikkunassa ihan keskustassa.
PSS. Netti tulee toimintaan via Montàlla 10 päivän sisällä!
PSSS. Anna kävi yliopiston mukana Nykissä keväällä ja osallistujien kuvista järjestetään ilmeisesti aika suuri näyttely. Menen mukaan avajaisiin!

Safely at Raisio,
Okay, after yesterday's moving out rumble, I'm safely at Raisio again. Spent the last night in Helsinki partying. Iain, Robbie, Riina and I went to Onnela, where also Frank and Remon joined us. Found myself from Espoo around 5am in the morning with a whole in my shoe (very small one though), because people tend to break glasses in the bar and relatively big one decided to go through my leather shoes. Thank god, nothing worse happened.
Riina was a part of LIC team when I was starting my career there. I never actually spoke to her before, but this evening I did. She's absolutely lovely :) We talked about so much between going to exchange to the social side of smoking (and no mom, I don't smoke). She left with the last train and later sent Iain a message which was directed to me (she doesn't have my phonenumber). So little things can make me so happy. Yesterday before leaving for clubbing, Robert asked me if my leaving is for me hooray (thumb up), ok (hand about stable), don't wanna go (thumb down). I said hooray (thumb up), don't wanna go (thumb down). This morning I talked to Riina again and she said to me that I shouldn't think about leaving as such a bad thing. I can always come back and "it's absolutely the best time of your life!" I told mom about it today and she pointed that she's been trying to say the same thing several times, but seemingly it only goes through when said by the right person.
Right now, Siru is visiting me in Turku. We came here with the same train. Before jumping in, I went shopping in Kamppi trying to find small things to give to people in Italy of Finland. I didn't find anything else than postcards for the guestroom in my italian apartment. It'll so go Finland.
Now I'm really tired. For the last week, I've had hard time figuring out how to be with people. I spend time with them, but I don't have much to say to them. I have so much on my mind that it's like absolutely everything that is happening around me is interupting me; whether it's someone talking, me thinking, me doing something.. whatever, it's always interupting something.

Finland is a private harbour.
I went to Googlism and looked up what it has to say about my home country. I took out the ones that were totally false, but other than that.. here's what I got:
Finland is a small country. Finland is fantastic. Finland is expensive. Finland is a nordic democracy with a population of 5 million. Finland is a nordic country situated between the 60th and 70th degrees of latitude. Finland is a world leader in innovative information. Finland is a rockabilly land. Finland is a prosperous country with a high level of social security. Finland is europe's most heavily forested country. Finland is funland. Finland is one of the leading countries in internet use. Finland is unfortunately very little known outside scandinavia. Finland is an open association. Finland is no utopia. Finland is one of world's last great wildernesses. (haha!) Finland is uniquely rich. Finland is a young nation in many ways. Finland is a safe and reliable destination. Finland is an excellent choice for travelers who appreciate nature. Finland is a republic. Finland is the land of the thousand lakes. Finland is a private harbour. (I especially like that one.) Finland is like stepping into a refreshing shower on a hot day.

Emotion storm for farewell,
Suomeksi
Warning, the up-coming text is made within a major emotion storm.
On Fri evening was the shadow fresher's party (a starting party for the first year students). The whole weekend I've been repeating the same thing to my new roomie here in Vantaa of how sad I'm to go away from these people. She said that it's easily noticable that the group has spent time (and experienced) a lot together. We danced in those mosh-pit-kind-of-things in Pinkku (a bar in Tikkurila), danced letkajenkka and sandwich dance with at least ten people :) According to Saara, my new roomie, we danced some weird pervert dance. In the morning Suvi and I were wondering what the hell that means: "Probably something to do with us dancing so close.. so finnish." :P
Today I'm still in a shock of what happened yesterday (on Sat). I've never felt I'd actually deserve something like this and I've never got something like this.
Small group was suppose to go to salsa with the spanish exchangies and so we did. I agreed with Laura to see her before and start the night together by relaxing. I was a bit stale and thinking: "okay... first food and then watch a nice movie, because I'm feeling like this." Laura opened the door: "Heyy" and straight without taking a breath in between "you look tired!" I wondered out loud that she had hardly seen me and she's already saying that... I cannot remember what we talked after that or did we talk at all. I put my bag down and took shoes off - and suddenly 800% unexpected visitors come out of the bedroom. "Aaaaa... surrprise!" Oh no oh no. "You didn't :D"
From Minna, Fatsku and Paula, I got a card, which had a lovely little pearlheart inside of it and it wished angels for my journey, emergency buttons and a sign saying: Teeny tiny guarding angel will be with you. From Suvi and Laura I got a big Karhu-design blue and white bag, which can fit a laptop (!!!) and there was peasoup inside and Fazer chocolate and salmiakki in every possible form. I didn't know how to react to everything in such a short time. Did I even say thank you!

Oh I've never ever had such a lovely surprise. Later they told me things like how they had planned it for over a month and how I didn't get little slips that people had made. I was and I AM very greatful.. and in shock. I sat in the sofa after I'd hug everything and wondered aloud: "Oh no, I wasn't prepared to be social." :D Laura, Suvi, Siru, Kimmo, Miika, Juha, Paula, Fatsku ja Minna <3
Later in the evening we did go salsa and to Zetor to introduce underlined finnish attitude. I got to dance salsa with Julio, David, Yoli and Suvi, dance on the benches and sing my voice down - I had a wonderful night. Absolutely wonderful.
Siru said today on the phone perkele, we just got to know and now you're leaving already.
I think it's lovingly torturing that there's so many great people staying here. Also the up-coming (and already a bit being) longing is lovingly torturing. The supposedly philosophic conversations with Miika, oh dear with Siru, dancing with Fatsku... Don't ever think that I didn't notice and appreciate every one of you. You've saved me with your own personally interesting ways from my own personally interesting brain farts. I believe I wouldn't even be in this school without you - I wouldn't go to exchange without you. I won't. You'll stay with me.
Today is 7 days until my move-out from Vantaa and 14 days until my move-out from Finland.
And I'm still not totally recovered from the surprise farewell party yesterday. Loveliest thought<3

Niinhän me mentiinkin.

Ootte pelastanut mut omilla persoonallisen mielenkiintoisilla tavoillanne mun omilta persoonallisen mielenkiintoisilta aivopieruilta. En varmasti olisi edes tässä koulussa enää ilman teitä - enkä varmasti lähtisi vaihtoon ilman teitä. En lähdekään. Mukana pysytte.

Ootte pelastanut mut omilla persoonallisen mielenkiintoisilla tavoillanne mun omilta persoonallisen mielenkiintoisilta aivopieruilta. En varmasti olisi edes tässä koulussa enää ilman teitä - enkä varmasti lähtisi vaihtoon ilman teitä. En lähdekään. Mukana pysytte.
Suloisin ajatus<3

Today I caught myself smiling again at something happened during the last few days. Yesterday, I met Tarja to get some of her leftover boxes. During a conversation while we were sitting in her house, she said something like: "But surely you will get lots of friends in Italy." I'm sure of that, but just now I'm realizing how many great friends I have here. Siru and I talked just a while ago about the friends we had in high school. Neither of us, feel we have anything in common with them anymore. There is only very few people who I've managed to stay closer friends with. Sometimes when I see some of the highschool friends in Turku and I keep thinking how did I ever managed to be their friend. We had absolutely nothing in common (except for school). There is still few great friends I've kept from Raisio/Turku.
The Wednesday that I spent in Raisio was Jussi's birthday party. I was doing some stuff in the internet and writing to my blog as I didn't have much to do during the day. Katri commented on an entry and we chatted shortly there. 10 minutes after that she was at our door (it was about 1 or 2pm) and she left at 9pm that evening.
At the Stockholm cruise, I had a great discussion with Suvi about school motivation.
Before Laura left to Korea, I went to see her and we talked about how some people can just start from where they were left, when they meet again. I like that thought. It's just human to not always have the energy to see and talk to everyone. Time and energy sources are limited. (Of course, there's sometimes also laziness included.)
I called Siru just yesterday for nothing special at all. We chatted for a while and I ended up smiling by myself in the train. Then Miika sent me a message saying something like hi for no good reason!
Today I sent mom an email about all the money arrangements and such. She sent me something back very shortly and in the end she wrote: "I miss you". Instant smile on my face.
Laura is lending me her storage space for a full year. I'm worried to use her space, because I'm sure she would use it herself too. I'm so grateful of it since this way we don't have to take all my stuff to Raisio (and then back again the next year).
Then there's Yolanda dancing with me with full speed. Julio dancing salsa and his nice voice. Remon: "We've discussed it with Frank that you're a kulta! That means a sweetheart, right?" Going to Mental Wear shop with Kimmo and Siru. Robert trying to make me smile during my horrible sleepy-day and trying to manage at the same time teach foreigners finnish. And Iain with his scottish accent and sense of humour.
"naaa no limits but u wouldnt understand and be able 2 cope as well as i can with finnish :p"
"come on. when you get wrecked, i pull asses. and you say i couldn't cope with what exactly?"
"Lol wait if i get wrecked ul pull an ass?"
It's good to leave for knowing that
I cannot remember many days of unhappiness.
23 days until leaving the country. 16 days until I move away from Vantaa.

Helsinki,
Partly it's good to see how difficult it is to think of leaving.. even though it is so difficult. I'm leaving so much behind, taking so much with me and looking forward with my eyes (and heart) wide open.
These pictures are from two different evenings I spent with lovely Laura. One near Hietsu and one, taken tonight, at Freda (Check out the links to helicopter pictures of the places. The blocks are very typical finnish with the inner yard.)
